Governor Appoints Justice Jenkins As Judicial Appointments Secretary

The California Latino Judges Association applauds Governor Newsom’s selection of Justice Martin J. Jenkins as Judicial Appointment Secretary.

Justice Jenkins’ diverse personal and professional background make him uniquely and extremely well-qualified to serve in this position. He was raised in a working-class neighborhood in a family that valued education and public service, as well as the importance of the rule of law in a diverse society. During his more than 30-year legal career, which included work as a trial attorney in public and private sector followed by service as a state court judge and federal judge before his appointment to the First District Court of Appeal, Justice Jenkins demonstrated his commitment to public service and earned the reputation for being not only a strong and effective advocate, but an intelligent and even-tempered, firm but compassionate jurist. In the middle of it all, he earned the St. Thomas More Award in recognition for his distinguished record of service and dedication to his family, his church and his community. Justice Jenkins is a highly and universally respected member of the California legal community.

The California Latino Judges Association congratulates Justice Jenkins, and looks forward to working with him and Governor Newsom to improve access to justice in our great State and to diversify the California judiciary by identifying the most qualified and most representative candidates for judicial office.
